Growing up there was always a pitcher of sweet tea in the refrigerator. My mom didn’t but pop, so tea it was. Every family has a different way to make sweet tea. It is their signature of sorts. Here is my tried and true method:
Southern Sweet Tea
Purchase the Lipton gallon sized tea bags from Costco. so much easier then opening all those little pouches.
In a teapot or a pot, fill it up with water and place on stove. Heat water until boiling.Once water is boiling use a heat proof boil (I use pampered chef batter bowl) and pour water over tea bag and let steep for 7 to 10 minutes. If you use a pot to heat water, just remove from heat and put tea bag on pot and steep. Once that is done, pour in pitcher, keeping tea bag out of pitcher. Dump 3/4 to 1 cup sugar in the hot tea water stir well. Finally, fill the gallon size pitcher to top with cold water stirring while you add.
Fill a glass up with ice add tea and enjoy!
*In the summer, I add a few fresh mint leaves to each pitcher.
Victor and I like un-sweet tea. I make 2 pitchers one for the kids with sugar and one for us same way minus the sugar. Saving those calories, I can drink Sangria,
See you soon,
